DIRECTIONS: In this activity, you will imagine that you are either a Union or Confederate soldier. You will write a letter back to your family. You will post your letter to the “I am a Civil War Soldier” Padlet for your specific class period (see links below). When completing your “I am a Civil War Soldier” letter, use the following checklist in order to be sure that you have included all of the activity requirements.
*NOTE: When you are preparing your letter, consider the information that you gathered from the Civil War 150 website, the Civil War letters that you read, and the pictures of Civil War soldiers that you have viewed.
- Your selected Civil War soldier photograph (<--link)
- A historically accurate/relevant date
- Details of soldier life (food, rations, supplies)
- An explanation of the hardships you are facing
- An explanation of why you joined the military.
- A minimum of FOUR words from the “Civil War Slang Vocabulary Bank” (<--link)
